An exciting opportunity has arisen for two GPs to join our fantastic team at Regal Chambers Surgery. One is a substantive post (6 sessions) and one is to cover maternity leave for a 12 month period from October 2021 (6 sessions).

We are a resilient, friendly, forward-thinking, teaching and training practice in a historic market town within easy reach of London. We are supportive and look after each-other as well as the health & wellbeing of our patients.

– Track record of high QOF and enhanced service targets achieved
– Strong collaborative working with the 4 other practices in our Primary Care Network and wider GP Federation, 12PointCare
– Accredited training practice

– Organised and well-structured practice (team consists of 7 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 2 GP Retainers, 2 ST3 GP
Registrars, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 HCAs and an excellent ancillary/administrative support team)
– Systm1 Clinical System and users of Ardens, AccuRx, E-consult

– CQC visit in January 2016, rated as good. This rating was re-confirmed in 2021.

Regal Chambers Surgery is based in Hitchin, an old historic Market Town. The current list size is around 12,700 and we look after the neighbouring villages of Charlton, Gosmore, Holwell, Ickleford, Offley, Pirton, Preston, Little Wymondley and St Ippolyts.

We are both a teaching and a training practice. We teach undergraduate medical students from Cambridge University and we train qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice from the East of England Deanery.

Services to patients and workload
The Practice is a GMS practice and offers a full range of services to patients. The practice has operated a GP Telephone Assessment (Triage) appointment system since May 2019. There are 2 Duty Doctors who work through the list of patients on a daily basis, assessing over the phone and bringing patients in as necessary. Patients are currently offered a 15 minute appointment if being seen face to face. An Urgent Care Nurse will see emergency patients the same day. Additional services include ante-natal and post- natal care, Baby Clinics and Developmental checks, Women’s Health (contraception including coil fits plus cervical cytology), Minor Surgery and Joint Injections.

All higher targets are achieved for immunisations and cervical cytology.

The practice looks after two nursing & residential homes in the area, Elmside and Benslow. We also have private contracts to provide GP services to patients in Hampden House and Gainsford (facilities for patients with mental health problems).

QoF and Enhanced Services
We are a high achieving Practice for Quality and Outcome Framework (QoF) points. The Practice also delivers almost all of the Enhanced Services offered within Herts.

The practice has always had a reputation for providing high calibre services to patients – clinically, administratively and front-of-house – and the implementation and achievement of these targets has resulted in our striving for continuing excellence.

IM & T
The Practice uses SystmOne as its clinical system for all clinical data entry. The use of Ardens within S1 during consultations ensures that there is high quality clinical data which, in turn, is used to inform decisions around improving patient health.

The non-clinical staff use the system for appointments, recalling patients for specialist clinics, scanning documents into patient records and referral letters etc. The system allows us to text patients regarding appointments and follow-ups. We also have a very user-friendly website which is updated on a regular basis.

The practices also engages with AccuRx and E-consult.

Staff
Practice staff numbers have increased gradually over the past few years as the needs of General Practice have changed. There is a mix of long-serving, established staff alongside newer members who have been employed.
Staff meetings and training is arranged for staff on a regular basis.

There are daily clinical referral meetings each morning to allow GPs time to discuss any complex patients or seek advice prior to referring.

There are weekly meetings between the Senior Partners and the Business Manager and Team Leaders. The doctors meet each week for a Business/Clinical Meeting and Partners also have Quarterly meetings.

Patient Participation Group
There is an involved Patient Participation Group which has been involved in helping with practice changes.

12PointCare

The practice is a member of a GP Federation, 12 Point Care. The Senior Partner is the Chief Executive of 12PointCare.

Primary Care Network
We are a member of the Hitchin & Whitwell PCN which covers 4 practices across Hitchin, Whitwell and Old Welwyn. We have worked together to provide covid vaccinations and appoint staff working across practices such as clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists and social prescribers.

The positions could be Part Time, Fixed Term Contract, or Permanent.

Salary will be negotiable.
