Sundon Medical Centre

Sundon Medical Centre currently has an opening for a GP to join our team of clinical and non-clinical staff. The surgery has a long established reputation for high quality patient care.

We are a supportive partnership, at the heart of our local community in North Luton near to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, with a dispensing branch surgery in Harlington village. The practice currently has 5 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 3 Nurses, HCA’s and a Mental Health Liaison Worker. We are a training practice that aims to deliver quality General Practice, and develop new models of care for our practice population.

We are part of Hatters Health PCN, with an expanding team of additional roles including Clinical Pharmacists, PAs, Care Coordinator, Health Coach and Social Prescribers. we have established an integrated care model for our frail elderly population with the support of a Care Coordinator and Community Matron. We provide a tier 3 minor surgery service to Luton, with dermatology expertise. We provide specialist diabetes care, enhanced gynaecology services, and are high QOF achieving. As a PCN we have established a model of enhanced support to our care home patients, and have recently started ‘smart life’ lifestyle group consultations. There are opportunities to shape the design of primary care and to make workload sustainable and flexible for the future.

As a training practice, we work closely with the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Primary Care Training Hub and actively encourage our staff to take up their support and development offers. We would welcome applications from newly qualified GPs and would be happy to support you to take up the New to Practice Fellowship Programme which is a two-year programme of support for newly qualified GPs which aims to support your transition into primary care and help to develop your leadership skills, resilience and any special interests. As part of the programme, you will receive protected learning time of up to four sessions per month pro rata. We have on Dr in the fellowship programme at present.

Throughout your career, we can also support you to access:

  • Mentoring and coaching for GPs in any stage of their career;
  • Portfolio Career Opportunities such as becoming a GP mentor through the Supporting Mentors Scheme for mid to late career GPs;
  • New to Partnership Programme – lump sum of up to £20k plus £3k training grant;
  • Support to become a GP trainer;
  • Access to our BLMK Health and Wellbeing Support programme including the ShinyMind App;
  • Access to BLMK wide GP Peer Support Networks.

We are enthusiastic about medical education, and we are the first PCN in BLMK to successfully complete our application to become a PCN learning environment which allows us take on a variety of students and further grow our multi-disciplinary team.

We are a mature PCN, and all practices work well together under the leadership of Dr Haydn Williams, GP Partner at Sundon Medical Centre and Sarah Bunn, PCN Business Manager. Successfully delivering the PCN DES, Covid Vaccination programme and Enhanced Access.

We are flexible and would consider part-time, job share, Salaried GPs or Partners. Working as a Locum to meet our team and get a feel for our practice would also be welcomed. We are flexible on the number of sessions.
