Compassionate Appraiser Training for Nurses


Compassionate Appraisals are a facilitated self-review to discuss, review and plan for professional development. It is a meaningful, supportive conversation with an experienced peer which focuses on the individual and their needs.

Compassionate Appraiser Training is for experienced nurses working in general practice in Hertfordshire or West Essex who want to develop their skills in appraisals and supporting others. The training has been kindly funded by Herts and West Essex ICB and delivered by Beds & Herts LMC. The course is not accredited but may count towards your CPD.

We request you are able to attend both Part 1 and Part 2. Both sessions will be online (via MS Teams or Zoom – TBC).

Part 1 – Appraiser Training

Wednesday 02nd October 2024, 9.30am – 4.30pm

Part 2 – Reflective Practice

Wednesday 29th January 2025, 1.30pm – 3.30pm

It is advisable to use a PC or laptop in a private and confidential space. You will need a strong internet connection with a camera and microphone as the sessions will be interactive and require contribution and participation in group activities.

Learning Objectives:

Part 1 – Appraiser Training

Wednesday 02nd October, 9.30am – 4.30pm

  1. Understand the meaning of Appraisals
  2. Learn some tips, tools and techniques to be an effective appraiser
  3. Practice developing skills in a supportive environment
  4. Acknowledge limits and signposting for further support
  5. Meet other appraisers in the local area and start to build a network of peer support

Part 2 – Reflective Practice

Wednesday 29th January, 1.30 – 3.30pm

  1. Come together to debrief, reflect on professional practice
  2. Share experiences and discuss issues to support each other
  3. Promote models of good practice
