Parliamentary Constituency Dashboard
The Parliamentary Constituency Dashboard is designed to help LMCs and GPs to present data to their local Members of Parliament (or Parliamentary Candidates in the upcoming election).
Where does the data come from?
The dashboard uses data collected by NHS England, which is publicly available on the NHS Digital website (NHS Digital). All of the data is either collected from the practices clinical system (e.g. list size data, appointment data) or from the returns submitted to NHSE by each practice (e.g. workforce data). No data has been changed in building this model.
How are the practices mapped to the Parliamentary Constituency?
The data uses the postcode of the main site of each practice to map it into a parliamentary constituency (using the new constituency boundaries being used in the 2024 general election). This means that a branch surgery that sits in another constituency boundary will not appear in that constituency. The number of patients reflects the number of registered patients at each of the practices in the constituency and therefore may not exactly match the government population figures for each constituency.
How have we compared the data from April 2014 to April 2024?
In order to compare the change in patient and GP numbers between April 2014 and April 2024 we have mapped all of the practices that existed in 2014 to the new parliamentary constituency boundaries being used for the 2024 election, as opposed to the constituency boundary they sat in in 2014. This allows for a like-for-like comparison between the two sets of data.
Can I share this data?
This dashboard has been created to support LMCs and their practices to provide those running for or holding elected office with useful information on how general practice has changed in their area over the past ten years. Please feel free to print, copy or use the data as you see fit. However, please do not share the direct link to the dashboard with those outside general practice, as it is best used as an aid, by those who understand the data, rather than a tool for the media or general public.
